10 Out Of 17 Mayors From Metro Manila In Favor Of Extending ECQ – MMDA

MMDA – The spokesman of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said 10 out of 17 mayors from Metro Manila are in favor of extending the “enhanced community quarantine” (ECQ).

On April 24, Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte extended the “enhanced community quarantine” (ECQ) in Metro Manila, CALABARZON, Central Luzon, and other ‘high-risk’ areas following the continuous increase of coronavirus cases in the country.

In a previous article, the 75-year-old chief executive talked about what will happen after May 15. He said the government may allow some construction companies to resume its operations.

Recently, Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso implemented a 49-hour ‘hard lockdown’ in Tondo. The Manila Police District has arrested 281 quarantine violators during the total lockdown. The authorities said it was a success because most of the residents comply with the city government’s orders.

President Rodrigo Duterte is expected to announce his decision on whether to lift or extend the ECQ on Monday, May 11. If he decides to lift the ECQ, a “general community quarantine” will be imposed in the National Capital Region (NCR).

Based on ABS-CBN News’ Tweet, the spokesman of Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), Celine Pialago said 10 out of 17 mayors from Metro Manila are in favor of extending the ECQ in NCR. She said the mayors ask COVID-19 Inter-Agency Task Force to implement similar guidelines and policies in the region.

“Ang hiling lang po ng Metro Manila mayors, kung anong desisyon ng IATF, sana po iisang polisiya, iisang guidelines, iisang kumpas lang po para sa NCR since NCR must act as one region. Hindi po pwede na isang city ECQ, yung isa GCQ, yung isa modified.”
