DOH Update on COVID-19 in the Philippines As of May 8, 2020

DOH – The Department of Health released an update about the coronavirus or COVID-19 in the Philippines as of today, May 8.

Coronavirus or COVID-19, a disease that was first recorded in China last December 2019, has spread throughout the world. Currently, more than 200 nations across the globe got confirmed cases of this disease.

Philippines is one of the countries fighting against the pandemic which will take a long-term as to the World Health Organization (WHO). It has a very strange nature.

A person infected with coronavirus may exhibit flu-like symptoms. He or she may experience breathing difficulties, fever, body pain, and cough. However, a person can also be positive even without showing signs.

Not only the elders are susceptible to coronavirus although they are more susceptible to it. It can infect even the younger ones as shown by the cases in several affected countries.

DOH COVID Update

In the Philippines, several areas now are under an Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) to curb the spread of the disease. Other areas considered as low and medium risk are implementing the General Community Quarantine (GCQ).

In its latest update, the Department of Health (DOH) noted that there is now a total of 10,463 coronavirus cases confirmed in the Philippines as of today, May 8. It is after 120 new cases of the disease were recorded.

According to the health department, 11 new deaths were recorded bringing the death toll to 696. With regards to the recoveries, 116 new recoveries were added bringing the total recoveries to 1,734.
