DoTr: MRT, LRT To Allow 160 Passengers Per Train After ECQ Lift
DOTR – The Department of Transportation said that the LRT and MRT systems will allow a capacity of 160 passengers per train once ECQ is lifted.
According to GMA, DOTr Undersecretary Artemio Tuazon Jr. confirmed this in an interview that they will set the maximum number in Light Rail Transit (LRT) and Metro Rail Transit (MRT) systems to 160 per train, which is about 20% of total capacity.
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, LRT1 has a daily ridership of about 500,000, 200,000 in LRT2, and 300,000 in MRT.
The capital city is among the high-risk areas in the country that was placed under extended enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in order to prevent the spread of the virus.
As per the report, for areas under the general community quarantine (GCQ) starting this day, buses, monitorized jeepneys will be allowed to resume operations.
These modes of transportation will be allowed to operate at around 50% capacity.
