Gov. Bong Lacson Speaks on Negros Occidental ECQ Fate

NEGROS OCCIDENTAL – Governor Eugenio Jose “Bong” Lacson spoke on the fate of the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) in the province.

Negros Occ. is one of the provinces to be placed under General Community Quarantine after April 30 as per the decision of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte. The Chief Executive’s decision is in line with the recommendation of theNational Inter-Agency Task Force against Covid-19.

However, a few days before the ECQ will expire in the province this April 30, five (5) new cases were confirmed. One of the patient is a man from La Castellana while the other is a 69-year-old man from Bacolod City who expired.

The other two (2) new cases of coronavirus are repatriated overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who are under quarantine when they tested positive for the disease.

The latest case of COVID-19 is a 65-year-old woman from Barangay Banago, Bacolod City. She is now isolated and the area where her residence is located is under a lockdown.

Initially, Gov. Bong Lacson wanted to extend the ECQ to one (1) more week after new cases were confirmed in the province. It gathered different reactions from the people.

Recently, an update regarding the fate of the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) in Negros Occidental crossed the surface. Based on a report on TV Patrol Negros, the ECQ will end this April 30 and the General Community Quarantine will be implemented starting May 1 as to Gov. Bong Lacson.

The Provincial Governor expressed that the province will abide by the recommendation of the national IATF which assessed moderate risk in Negros Occ.

Based on the report, Gov. Lacson met with all the mayors of the cities and municipalities in Negros Occidental regarding the role of the LGUs in the downgrading of the quarantine. He stressed that border checkpoints will continue and only limited commercial establishments are allowed to operate under the GCQ.

The Governor is still waiting for the directive of the Department of Transportation. Also, there is still no decision on whether the use of quarantine pass will still be practiced or not.
