And now, making some things worse about the deadly virus, there have been a case in South Korea where a 21-year-old woman without any medical problems prior, suffered acute myocarditis due to COVID-19. The first heart problem related to the virus has been recorded in Daegu.
This could only mean that the virus just do not attack the respiratory system but it can also cause further damage to other organs. Daegu is the worst infected city in South Korea with 64% of the country’s total tally came from this area.
Based on the report from Inquirer, the patient initially suffered cough, sore throat, fever and diarrhea – the common symptoms of the disease. However, after three days of her diagnosis, her case worsened by suffering more difficulty in breathing. This prompted for her to be taken to the intensive care unit of Keimyung University Dongsan Hospital – an establishment meant for coronavirus-infected patients with severe or critical conditions.
Dr. Kim In-cheol shared that the patients’ MRI, X-ray and CT imaging showed infections in her lungs and heart. She had an “enlarged heart and patterns of viral pneumonia, such as ground-glass opacities”.
The doctor said based on report, “She was hospitalized for a month, about a fourth of which was spent in intensive care. Although she has since recovered, the extent of cardiac damage from the virus may prove lasting.”
