Italy Lockdown Over Coronavirus May “Inevitably” Be Extended

Extension on Italy Lockdown Over Coronavirus Possible

ITALY LOCKDOWN – The restrictions set in Italy to contain the spread of the 2019 coronavirus will expire on April 3 but may be extended.

The 2019 coronavirus has hit several countries. This disease which has already been declared as pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO) has cost over 42,000 lives across the globe now.

The country with the most number of COVID-19 deaths is Italy. The cases are increasing amid the massive measures implemented in the country.

Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte initially locked the borders of Lombardy region, the epicenter of COVID-19 in Italy, and 14 provinces. However, it was not enough to contain the spread of the virus.

Conte extended the lockdown to the whole country. Also, he ordered the non-essential businesses to stop their operation. Only those businesses that are offering essential services like food selling are allowed to operate amid the outbreak and the lockdown.

Amid the Italy lockdown due to coronavirus, the country keeps on recording hundreds of deaths daily. The total confirmed cases in the country now is over 105,000 and over 12,400 have died of the disease.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Italy lockdown may be extended as to Regional Affairs Minister Francesco Boccia. Supposedly, the restrictions will expire in April 3.

“I think that it would be inappropriate and irresponsible to talk of re-opening (schools and production sites),” the Regional Affairs Minister expressed according to the report.

Also, the minister expressed that he will propose that sports events like the matches for soccer games must not be allowed for the whole of April. On the part of Italian Minister Roberto Speranza, in an interview with Corriere della Sera newspaper, he asked his fellowmen not to be complacent.

Lombardy is the hardest-hit part of Italy. The Italian government previously sought the help of the military to impose the restrictions further amid the increasing death cases due to COVID-19.
