Officials of Hospital in Sultan Kudarat Condemn Bleach Attack on Coronavirus Frontliner
CORONAVIRUS – A coronavirus frontliner in Tacurong, Sultan Kudarat was viciously attacked by 5 men
The 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19) is changing our lives. Most people are now isolated in their homes, lesser cars on the road, and clearer skies.
However, our frontliners experience discrimination due to suspicions of close contact with COVID-19 cases. These brave workers offer their lives in the battle against the coronavirus.
Recently, a healthcare worker in Tacurong, Sultan Kudarat named Ritchie Estabillo experienced discrimination. Based on a report from ABS-CBN News, five (5) men splashed the frontliner’s face and body with disinfectant on Friday, March 27.
The healthcare worker was on his way to report for duty at St. Louis Hospital when the 5 men attacked him at the public market. Fortunately, Estabillo was able to rush himself to the hospital.
According to the report, an official of SLH, Dr. Vanessa Joy del Muro condemned the attack on one of their front-liners. They released a statement saying the victim was a breadwinner.
“Our personnel is a bread winner, as many of our frontliners are, who in the present pandemonium, chose to bravely continue their duties to the community. At this time, we respectfully demand that justice be given. He is a frontliner…”
“We demand justice for our healthcare personnel. He heeded the call of duty when others would not. Our healthcare workers remain unfazed by this discrimination they now face on a daily basis,” she said.
Based on the report, the authorities are still investigating the incident and now looking for the suspects. The co-worker of the victim said he is now recovering.
