VisionQuest is the second spin-off of WandaVision, following Agatha All Along. The series is available for streaming on Disney+, with new episodes released every Wednesday.

The episode features Vision, portrayed by English actor Paul Bettany, engaging in a conversation with Tommy Maximoff, played by Ruaridh Mollica. Their exchange takes place after Tommy accidentally injures himself while using his powers on a vending machine.

When Vision checks on the younger character, Tommy assures him that his injury is nothing serious. He also mentions that he is a southpaw, a term commonly used to describe a left-handed person, particularly in sports such as boxing.

This prompts Vision to bring up Pacquiao, one of the most celebrated left-handed fighters in boxing history. With assistance from E.D.I.T.H., played by Emily Hampshire, Vision navigates the conversation and references the Filipino boxing icon.

Although the mention is brief, it highlights Pacquiao’s international recognition and the lasting influence of his achievements in professional boxing. Known for winning world titles across eight different weight divisions, Pacquiao remains one of the Philippines’ most recognizable sporting figures.

The reference also adds to the growing list of Filipino connections appearing throughout the MCU.

Previously, Marvel fans heard Filipino music in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, where Shanti Dope’s hit song “Amatz” was featured in the television series. The inclusion introduced a piece of Filipino music to the franchise’s global audience.

Meanwhile, Filipino-American actor Jacob Batalon, who portrays Ned Leeds in the Spider-Man films, has also brought Filipino representation to the MCU, including in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Pacquiao’s appearance through dialogue in VisionQuest further demonstrates how Filipino personalities and cultural references continue to find their way into internationally recognized entertainment franchises.

For Filipino fans, the unexpected shoutout offers another reason to celebrate the country’s growing visibility in global pop culture.
