Construction Worker Walks For 5 Hours to Reach Home Due to Mass Transport Suspension Amid Enhanced Quarantine

A construction worker walked for almost five hours just to reach home after work amid the enhanced community quarantine.

The Philippine government is currently implementing precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease. The health authorities are strictly monitoring the public’s health.

President Rodrigo Duterte has declared the Philippines under the state of calamity after placing Luzon on enhanced community quarantine. The measure limits the movement and transactions of the people.

The enhanced community quarantine prohibits mass transport, mass gatherings, land, air, and sea travel. The measure also includes strict home quarantine and work from home arrangement.

Recently, a Facebook user named Tobit Cruz has shared the heartbreaking story of an exhausted construction worker who walked for over five hours. The poor man walked from Ayala Alabang up to the checkpoint in C6 Taytay due to mass transport restrictions.

The employee starts to walk around 3:00 pm from Ayala Alabang on Tuesday afternoon (March 17) and reached C6 Taytay around 8:00 pm. The worker chooses to work despite the quarantine to earn money to buy food for his family.

Unfortunately, their construction project will be temporarily suspended due to the enhanced quarantine starting today (March 18, 2020). The poor worker could not enjoy the privilege given to other employees during the lockdown.
