No Work, Class, & Mass Transport as President Duterte Placed Entire Luzon Over Enhanced Community Quarantine

No work, no class, and no mass transport will be allowed as President Rodrigo Duterte placed entire Luzon in enhanced community quarantine.

The coronavirus disease is already spreading rapidly in different countries all around the world. The virus has already infected thousands of people worldwide causing fear and panic to individuals.

A lot of countries including the Philippines are already taking precautionary measures to prevent the spread of contagious disease. The Philippines also implement community quarantine and lockdown in several areas.

On Monday (March 16, 2020), President Duterte has placed the entire Luzon under “enhanced community quarantine” to contain COVID-19. The measure causes heavy traffic congestions and overcrowded areas due to checkpoints.

Mr. Duterte explained that the enhanced quarantine will limit the movements and transactions of everyone. They will be only allowed to buy food, medicine, and other necessities as well as work from home arrangements.

“Everyone will come out of their houses only to buy food, medicine, and other necessities… Only establishments providing these shall remain open,” Duterte said.

Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea has also issued a memorandum declaring the suspension of classes from March 17, 2020, to April 14, 2020 due to the enhanced community quarantine.

Here are the other salient measures:

  • Prohibits mass gatherings
  • Strict home quarantine
  • Work from home arrangement
  • BPO establishments and export-oriented industries shall remain operational
  • Suspension of mass public transport facilities including trains, buses, jeeps, etc.
  • Residents are only allowed to walk or use private vehicles
  • Restriction of land, air and sea travel

Anyone who will violate the guidelines and measures will be subject to criminal and administrative charges.
