Suspect in Greenhills hostage crisis finally arrested
Greenhills Hostage Crisis – The suspect in the hostage crisis that took place in Greenhills on noon of March 2 was finally arrested.
Here is the information initially released:
- Gunman is a ‘disgruntled’ former mall security guard
- At least 30 employees held hostage
- 1 injured; being treated at a hospital
- Mall on lockdown after mallgoers were evacuated
Initially, reports stated that there was a shooting incident at V-Mall. Later on, information was released that the suspect held hostages. Following this, medical team already positioned near the mall getting ready for what could possibly happen, according to DZRH reporter Christian Maño.
Three hours after the hostage taking took place portions of Greenhills Shopping Mall were already closed while the venue for the press conference conducted by the mall’s security was prepared.
About 8 PM, San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora went inside the mall to talk to suspect. When he went out, he assured the safety of the suspect once he will surrender peacefully. Later on, the suspect also went out with other security guards and medical personnel.
The 10-hour Greenhills hostage crisis ended as suspect released the hostages. He spoke before the media to air his sentiments. Then, authorities arrested him.
Based on the report from CNN Philippines, the suspect released the hostages following the apology and resignation of his bosses.
