Read Leni Robredo Message on 34th Anniversary of EDSA People Power Revolution
LENI ROBREDO – Here’s Vice President Leni Robredo’s statement to mark the 34th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution.
The anniversary of the People Power Revolution also known as the EDSA Revolution occurs every 25 of February. The peaceful demonstrations in 1986 led to the departure of President Ferdinand Marcos. The rally took place at the Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (EDSA).
Since 2010, the event means that all the schools are close down while business establishments remain open. The People Power Revolution is also known as the “Yellow Revolution” due to the color worn by the protesters.
The EDSA People Power Revolution is celebrated every year to commemorate the struggle for the restoration of democracy in the country. In a previous article, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said that they have deployed over 2,000 cops for the EDSA anniversary.
Police Major General Debold Sinas said that these police officers will secure Welcome Rotonda, Philippine Coconut Authority, National Housing Authority, and ABS-CBN Compound.
On Tuesday, Vice President Leni Robredo issued a statement to mark the 34th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution. She said that the historic event is a reminder that Pinoys are ready to stand up against dictatorship.
“Magsilbi nawang babala ang EDSA sa sinuman ang muling magtatangkang ikuyom tayo sa loob ng kamaong bakal: Hindi sila magtatagumpay,” said Robredo.
Leni Robredo also said that the People Power Revolution was never a call for a perfect leader, but a reminder for him to prioritize the welfare of his countrymen instead of persecuting them. That remark could be a swipe at President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s “war on drugs.”
She is one of the most vocal critics of the Davaoeño politician and has described his “war on drugs” as a “failure.”
