This is a movie review of a thriller reboot Fantasy Island
Fantasy Island, a reboot of the 1977-1984 TV series of the same title, is about five winners of a TV contest who had the chance to spend a vacation together.
The movie sets on a beautiful but remote island where the secret dreams of the special guests turned to horrible things. In order to escape from the dreadful events, the guest must solve the island’s mystery.
This is under Blumhouse Production, which also produced the popular horror movies such as Get Out, The Purge, and Paranormal Activity. According to the movie review of Peter Travers, a film critic for Rolling Stone since 1989, Fantasy Island reboot surprisingly not so impressive given that it came from a production that gave viewers scream-worthy films before.
The movie has PG-13 ratings which can be considered that scary scenes were made subtler that it could have been. Travers described the 5 main characters as “hot bodies with deficiencies in the brains department”. It is because they did not question their host, Mr. Roarke played by Michael Peña (who is overqualified, according to the film critic), and his assistant, Julia (Parisa Fitz-Henley), when they told them to be careful of what they wish for.
The film critic also pointed out that the writing, directing, and acting are lame. Travers mentioned in his review that it is hard to believe that director Jeff Wadlow (who directed Truth or Dare) would need the service of two screenwriters in the movie, namely Chris Roach and Jillian Jacobs. However, the result is still “twaddle”.
The film critic also pointed out the incoherence of the scenes since Scene One started. Travers, however, mentioned that the only consolation that the viewers could get from the movie reboot of Fantasy Island is that its ending spelled out a possible sequel.
