Health Authorities In PH On Red Alert As China Coronavirus Suspected To Be In Philippines

CHINA CORONAVIRUS – The SARS-like coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan has been suspected to have breached the Philippines.

According to a report from Panay News, the Aklan Provincial Health Office is currently on Red alert. This was due to three Chinese nationals being quarantined after showing symptoms of the SARS-like virus from China.

The first to be hospital quarantined was a 29-year-old Chinese national on January 17. Another was a three-year-old girl who was quarantined the next day, Jan. 18.

The last to be quarantined was a 65-year-old individual that got tagged after landing at the Kalibo airport this Monday.

As per the report, all three individuals were brought to Dr. Rafael S. Tumbukon Memorial Hospital (DRSTMH) for medical examinations.

According to a statement from Dr. Cornelio Cuahon, the 29-year-old was advised to stay the night at DRSMTH. Meanwhile, the three-year-old was being considered as an outpatient.

Lastly, the 65-year-old patient was in being checked by the medical team in charge. In addition, blood samples were taken from them and sent to the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine in Manila for testing.

But, amidst the panic in other countries, Dr. Cuahon assured the public that they are ready. He said that they plan to meet with different private hospitals in the province to orient them with what to do in any worst scenario.

All the Chinese nationals were tagged by the Bureau of Quarantine at the Kalibo International Airport. They came from different provinces of China.
