Fire Blazes In Sagay City, Baby Dies, Three Siblings Survived
SAGAY CITY – A fire that blazed in Sagay Ciy, Negros Occidental left with a one-year-old baby dead while her three siblings survived.
According to SunStar, Senior Fire Officer 4 Rodney Nadal, officer-in-charge city fire marshal, stated that the fatality, identified as Mary Rose Lepangue, was sleeping with her three siblings, aged five, eight and nine years when the fire occured at about 8 PM, January 2.
The eldest of the siblings woke up from the heat. Knowing that their house is on fire, he woke his siblings up. Nadal added that the eldest tried to save his youngest sister but was unable to make it due to the blaze.
“The three children managed to get out, while their youngest was left inside,”
The house was made of nipa and bamboo, which made it easy to burn. It was already destroyed when the firemen arrived.
Nadal said that the fire lasted for several minutes but it was totally burned, adding that damage properties cost at around ₱10,000.
Based on the report, Mary Rose’s lifeless body was found from where she was sleeping. Authorities said that their mother, aged 28 years old, was not around when it happened.
Investigations from the police deduced that the fire might have be caused by a kerosene lamp.
“The eldest son shared that the lamp might have been hit by a cat which normally jumps on the table where the object is placed,”
