Long-Time Partner Of Eddie Garcia Blames GMA Network For Accident
EDDIE GARCIA – The veteran actor’s long-time partner Olivia Lilibeth Romero blamed GMA-7’s negligence for the accident which caused his death.
According to an article by Manila Bulletin, Romero appeared before the Senate Committee on Labor and Employment. There, she stated that Garcia would’ve survived if GMA sent medical team to the set immediately.
The renowned veteran actor passed away on June 20, 2019. The actor tripped on a cable while filming a GMA-7 television show in Tondo, Manila.
This prompted the Senate inquiry into the implementation of Republic Act No. 11058. This would be the Occupational Safety and Health Standards (OSHS).
According to the article by Manila Bulletin, Romero made a statement before the senators, DOLE officials, and TV Network Executives. She then wanted to make the GMA Network accountable for the accident.
In her statement, she said “Eddie Garcia’s death would have been prevented, and I say he did not die in vain”. She then stated that Garcia’s death was caused by gross negligence.
Romero also added that the accident leading to the actor’s death was due to unsafe working environments. Afterwards she stated that there was also an absence of a medical team on the set.
Continuing with her statement, she said that GMA should have created a safe working environment for the 90-year-old actor. She then refuted the claims of GMA network executives.
During the inquiry, GMA network executives said that they wanted Garcia’s family to be the first to know about what happened on set.
“Lilybeth Rasonable did not want to first give me the investigation report.”She was referring to GMA’s senior vice president for entertainment.
Romero continued by saying “she said she owe it to the public to give it first to the public”. However, Romero said that she begged for it through her lawyer.
