According to Inquirer, because of this announcement, Nagiel Bañacia the head of Lapu-Lapu Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (LCDRRMO) said that eight hours without water is a disaster. He also reprimanded the water supplier.

He said that the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) should not let consumers go through such a disaster. Bañacia then urged the water district to implement a contingency plan.

He then added that the plan should lessen the ill effects of the water service interruption. He also said that this is no longer an inconvenience but a disaster.

The announced water service interruption resulted from the non-operation of their water wells in Barangay Casili in Consolacion. This was due to a scheduled power interruption implemented by Visayan Electric.

This then would lead to major parts of Cebu to experience little to no water pressure. Because of this, Bañaca pleaded the water district to not allow residents to suffer with no water for eight hours.

Bañaca suggested that Visayan Electric isolates the MCWD wells from in their power cut-off. He added that they could use generators so that the water supply would not be compromised.

“We know there are ways to mitigate the impact of no water”, he said. Bañaca then stated that millions of Cebuanos would be affected by the interruption.
