It was previously reported that the Messenger Kids has a flaw that allows a kid’s friend to make a group chat that has individuals who are not on the child’s list of approved connections.

The company eventually found out the flaw and turned off the affected group chats and notified parents that their children might chat unintentionally to strangers that are not approved by the parents.

Recently, the social media platform company spoke to the US Federal Trade Commission regarding the said flaw, as stated in a letter written by the company’s Vice President Kevin Martin which was sent to Massachusetts Senator Ed Markey and Connecticut Senator Richard Blumential. Martin further said that the flaw is a “technical error”.

The company further said that based on their review, they have rendered that the said error that US Senators, who raised privacy concerns, inquired already arose way back in October 2018.

They further added that the fix on the app that they added is meant in order to avoid the flaw from reoccurring.

As per the report, despite this, Markey and Blumential were dissatisfied that the social media platform did not commit to undergo a thorough review of Messenger Kids in order to spot more additional bugs or privacy issues.

On August 6 (Tuesday), they inquired Facebook whether there is a threatening pattern of poor privacy protection for kids who use the app. They were shocked to learn that the app enables the children to talk to strangers not approved by the parents.
