The New Policy On Twitter Aims To Address World Leaders’ Controversial Tweets
TWITTER – The America-based online social networking platform announced a new policy to address World Leaders’ tweets.
A lot of he most influential people across the globe has been using Twitter to express their thoughts to an audience in the past years. Local and international celebrities also used the platform to promote their outputs.
World leaders, however, are on a different level. Check out this unusual tweet made by US President Donald Trump.
According to reports, some leaders and politicians have also used the platform to make threats and abuse others.
In response to this, Twitter authorities have decided they might put warning labels on these kinds of tweets.
Their new policy was announced last Thursday following complaints from people that a president has been freely using Twitter to publish posts that contain hateful remarks and attacks that might end up with violence.
After the announcement, tweets that Twitter found to be involving public concerns and violates TOS rules, will receive warning labels with an explanation.
Users would need to tap the warning label to read the message. The tweets however, will not be removed.
The new policy, according to Twitter, will be applicable to all political personalities, candidates, and other public figures with over 100,000 Twitter followers. On top of it, would also cease the use of their algorithm to promote the violating tweets.
Keegan Hankes – a research analyst from the Intelligence Project of Southern Poverty Law Center expressed his stand on the new policy:
“It’s a step in the right direction… that hate speech can be in the public interest. I am arguing that hate speech is never in the public interest.”
