Trash Shipped By Hong Kong To The Country Will Be Returned
TRASH – The container van that was shipped to Misamis Oriental filled with trash will be returned to Hong Kong, according to the Malacañang.
A 40-foot container van mislabeled as “assorted electronic accessories” was shipped by Hong Kong to the Philippines. Environmental watchdogs in the Philippines reacted to the shipment recently.
After discovering the trash-filled container van, authorities immediately came up with plans to get rid of the trash.
Malacañang spokesperson Salvador Panelo confirmed the planned reshipment of the mislabeled container van by the Bureau of Customs (BOC).
Salvador Panelo revealed this information in a brief statement:
“We understand that the BOC would export this illegal shipment back to its port of origin.”
He also said that the palace is seeking assistance for keeping such illegal shipments from entering the country in a statement:
“We call on concerned agencies of the government to continue exercising vigilance and hinder the entry of such shipments of garbage into our territorial jurisdiction at the first instance.”
Hong Kong’s shipment is the most recent of all the trash shipment to the country. Other than Hong Kong, other nations including: Canada, South Korea and Australia also shipped trash to the country.
Bureau of Customs also have presented an order and a warrant of seizure for the mislabeled container shipment this May. Currently, BOC is getting ready to ship the container vans to the Chinese administrative region.
This is according to an article from ABS CBN News.
Salvador Panelo also expressed the Malacañang’s tough stance regarding the recent trash shipments:
“The Palace reiterates the firm position of the Republic of the Philippines that it will not allow its territory to be treated as a dumping ground for trash by any foreign country or entity.”
That is all there is to it, at least for now. We’ll post updates as soon as we got them.
