Hong Kong immigration authorities held former ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales
Former Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales was held by immigration authorities at the airport in Hong Kong.
Reportedly, she arrived in Hong Kong past 11 a.m. with her husband, son, daughter in law and two grandchildren.
The immigration authorities in Hong Kong separated her from her family and was asked to take the Philippine Airlines’ 6 p.m. flight back to Manila.
On the other hand, her family chose to stay with her.
The legal counsel of Morales, Attorney Anne Marie Corominas, told GMA News about this.
“She has committed no crime. She’s only exercised her democratic rights as a Filipino citizen!” the lawyer said.
According to the report, the ex-ombudsman previously filed a complaint against Chinese President Xi Jinping before the Omternational Criminal Court in The Hague.
She filed the complaint together with former Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert Del Rosario.
The retired Supreme Court associate justice was held because of “immigration reasons”, the source from the Department of Foreign Affairs stated.
