Although there were no official laboratory results revealed yet, it is the main suspected cause of the death of two kids in Bulacan.

This is according to an article from GMA News. Based on the article,

Health Undersecretary, Eric Domingo, told Unang Balita by GMA News that official reports might be announced later today or tomorrow.

He confirmed this in his statement:

“Ito po ay tinatawag nating suspected cases. Yung laboratory results baka po lumabas today o tomorrow. Pero as of now, we’re treating them as meningococcemia and doing all the necessary precautions.”

“This is what’s called ‘suspected cases’. The laboratory results might come out today or tomorrow. But as of now, we’re treating them [affected kids] as menigococcemia and doing all the necessary precautions.”

The reported victims affected by the infectious diseases were toddlers aged three and one year old. They were rushed to the hospital after displaying notable symptoms.

The symptoms include:

  • vomiting,
  • skin rashes,
  • cough and
  • fever.

The Health Undersecretary also advised that parents should bring their children to the hospital if symptoms similar to the disease’s were noticed.

He stated this on his statement including a brief explanation about the bacteria and how it can be prevented.

His statement:

“Napakalakas po ng bacteria na ito at kumakalat po kasi siya sa dugo at maaaring sa utak kaya nagkakameningitis din. Ang gamot lang po talaga sa kaniya ay antibiotic at basta nakikitaan na ng symptoms ang mga anak, dalhin na po kaagad sa ospital para ma-diagnose po agad.”

“This bacteria is tough and it can spread throughout the bloodstream and even reach the brain. That’s why meningitis is also possible. The only real cure for this is an antibiotic. And when parents notice the mentioned symptoms in their kids, they should bring it tot the hospital immediately so that they can be diagnosed.”

That is all there is to it, at least for now. We’ll post updates as soon as we got them.
