Director Erik Matti intriguing post received various comments.

ERIK MATTI – The award-winning film director Erik Matti has this intriguing post which ignited speculations that he just criticized “Ulan” of Nadine Lustre.

In a previous article, the film director Erik Matti expressed and shared how the state and business of the local film industry is in a dire situation. The filmmaker said, “This is not a slow death anymore. We are on life support and we need resuscitation. No more pointing fingers. I think we’re beyond that at this point. This is a plea for help.”

Now, being one of those who are concerned as to how people are responding to the local films, one of his Twitter posts had caught social media attention.

The Twitter post of the director which intrigued some people indicated, “A little of the weird, the quirk, the strange, the abstraction, the offbeat, the crazy, the meta, the esoteric or the mystical can often be mistaken as brave filmmaking or good cinema. Not necessarily. Sometimes it could be just a thesis film disguised as serious cinema.”

One commenter from the post stated that directors should lift each other up instead of dragging them down knowing that Matti is famous for his sentiments about the ratings of local films. But he [also clarified that he is talking about films in general not a specific one.

He stated, “I hate people presuming something they have no clue of. I’ll block you too if you keep on insinuating I am referring to your fillm. If it’s Nadine’s movie Ulan, I havent seen it and I dunno what it’s about.”

Ulan” is a film of Irene Villamor starring Nadine Lustre, Carlo AquinoMarco Gumabao, AJ Muhlach, and among others. It was under the VIVA Films and hit the theaters last March 13, 2019.
