Why Lovi Poe Chooses Silence When It Comes to Her Father Fernando Poe Jr.
LOVI POE – For years, Lovi Poe has kept details about her relationship with legendary actor Fernando Poe Jr. out of the spotlight, and she recently explained why.
Kapamilya actress Lovi Poe has explained why she rarely discusses her late father, legendary actor Fernando Poe Jr. (FPJ), during interviews or in public appearances. Speaking with Boy Abunda earlier this week, Lovi shared that although her father remains an important part of her life, she chooses not to publicly dwell on their family history because she wants to respect their personal circumstances.
Lovi is the daughter of FPJ and actress and model Rowena Moran. She is also the half-sister of politician Grace Poe.
According to Lovi, knowing that Fernando Poe Jr. was her father was never treated as something extraordinary while she was growing up. Raised primarily by her mother, she said her father’s identity was simply a normal part of her childhood rather than something that was constantly discussed at home.
“It was just something that was there, the norm in my head. It wasn’t a big deal sa home namin. My mom didn’t make it a big deal. I always knew since I was a kid and it was just in passing. I’ve always used my last name,” she maintained.
Rather than hearing stories only from her family, Lovi said she has also learned about FPJ’s character through people who had the opportunity to work with him. Their personal experiences, she explained, have helped her understand the kind of person her father was and the impression he left on those around him.
“How kind he is sa mga tao and you know, it’s not just my mom. I think it’s everyone na nakakasama ko dito, whoever na nakakatrabaho ko. What an amazing feeling it is na when they come up to me and go ‘Your dad was so good to me,’” she said.
She particularly recalled stories shared by actress Sunshine Dizon, who also showed kindness toward Lovi when she was still starting her career.
“Ate Sunshine [Dizon] told me great stories about my dad. And then you know what, the beauty of it is binalik niya sa akin yung kindness ng dad ko,” she shared.
Lovi said these experiences made her appreciate the lasting influence of FPJ even more.
“I believe it’s also because of the kindness that my dad showed her. It’s little things like that and I appreciate it kasi wherever I go, the legacy he left behind talaga. It’s remarkable–– you can’t really match it,” she maintained.
Although Lovi carries many memories and stories about her father, she admitted that discussing their family history publicly remains difficult for her.
“I really don’t talk about this part of my life because it’s become a habit out of respect for the whole family dynamic. I’m just truly grateful where I am now and he’s such a big factor of my life,” she expressed.
Lovi also clarified that her relationship with Grace Poe remains good, revealing that they regularly communicate.
“Ate Grace and I, katext ko siya halos everyday nga randomly and so everything’s great. I think it’s a very… the past is a topic that’s a bit, out of respect, I feel like, is something that I would like to keep to myself and privately,” she ended.
