Barbie Forteza and Mika Salamanca empathize with the victims of recent flooding
Kapuso actresses Barbie Forteza and Mika Salamanca spoke up about the recent flooding that many areas in Luzon experienced.
Barbie and Mika, utilizing the red carpet premiere of their new movie Saving Cherry, shared their thoughts on this problem and called for a more systemic and stronger government disaster response.
Based on the report from Kapuso primetime news program 24 Oras, both actresses expressed deep empathy for affected citizens, with emphasis that public resilience alone should not be the solution to the persistent flood issue in the Philippines.
Mika Salamanca criticized the current system. She pointed out the disparity between what the people contribute and the infrastructure they receive.
“Sa sobrang laki ng buwis na binabayaran natin, dapat nakikita natin ‘yun sa daanan natin. Dapat nakikita natin ‘yun sa tuwing may sakuna,” the former Pinoy Big Brother housemate stressed.
Mika also stressed that instead of relying on Filipinos to just remain tough, the government should make sure to build resilient infrastructure.
“Dapat pati ‘yung kalsada natin matatag. Hindi ‘yung mga Pilipino ‘yung matatag,” Mika said.
Barbie Forteza mirrored her fellow Kapuso actress’s statement about structural change. The Kapuso Primetime Princess pointed out that true solutions must come from top governance.
“’Yung solusyon naman nanggagaling ‘yan sa pinaka-mataas e. Hangga’t ganito ang sistema natin, walang magbabago,” Barbie said.
She also said that life and showbiz obligations must continue amid the recent calamity. Despite the flooding, she continues taping her upcoming series Honor Thy Mother with Megastar Sharon Cuneta.
Barbie is also promoting her new movie Saving Cherry. Previously, it was reported that her mall show to promote the film, in which Mika Salamanca is one of the cast members, was cancelled due to heavy downpours.
Barbie expressed her hopes that their new projects could offer a brief pocket of joy to Filipinos amid enduring the calamity.
