Malacañang Breaks Silence on Other Amnesties Granted by Past Presidents Aside from Sen. Trillanes’ Amnesty

MALACAÑANG – The Malacañang broke its silence on other amnesties aside from the one granted to Senator Antonio Trillanes IV.

Currently, there are questions on the amnesty granted to Senator Antonio Trillanes IV. Malacañang recently stressed that he failed to meet the requirements for amnesty.

It was in 2011 when then-President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III granted amnesty to the Senator. It was recently revoked through the Duterte Proclamation 572.

According to Malacañang, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte decided to wait for the verdict of the court. The Armed Forces of the Philippines and as well as the Philippine National Police also go in parallel with the President’s decision.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said that the other amnesties are “entitled to respect” unless it is being questioned like the one granted to the Senator.

“Sorry na lang si Senator Trillanes, pinag-aralan siya ni Solicitor General Calida at lumalabas na depektibo talaga ang kanyang amensty,” Roque said.

Based on the report, the presidential spokesperson also expressed that only Sen. Trillanes’ amnesty would be affected. He stressed that it is the only one that is up for review of the Makati Regional Trial Court.
