DUTERTE – Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte spoke about the revocation of Senator Antonio Trillanes IV’s amnesty grant.

Pres. Rodrigo Duterte was not in the Philippines when reports about the revocation of Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV‘s amnesty grant broke out. The 73-year-old national leader flew to Israel prior to it.

Malacañang expressed that Sen. Trillanes failed to comply the minimum requirements leading to the revocation of his amnesty grant. It was in 2011 when the said amnesty was granted to him by former Pres. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III.

Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV is one of the major protesters under the presidency of former Pres. and now House Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

According to the Senator, no evidence can be found against him. He stressed that he will not escape nor resist arrest. Pres. Duterte has previously talked to his Cabinet and decided to wait for the verdict of the court.

Currently, Sen. Trillanes is staying in the custody of the Senate. The issue has sparked different reactions from the people.

Based on a recent report on ABS-CBN News, Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte has already arrived from his trips to Israel and Jordan. Upon his arrival, the President broke his silence on the revocation of Sen. Antonio Trillanes’ IV’s amnesty grant.

According to Pres. Duterte, Sen. Trillanes “abandoned the vision of the military” and turned into a “corrupt guy”.

“Collecting diyan sa mga negosyante. Para siyang abogado. Alam namin ‘yan,” he said.

Based on the report, Pres. Rodrigo Duterte also expressed that Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV made the soldiers believe that “he was all for the military”. He stressed that the Senator is close to former Pres. Aquino and former Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin.

“Yung kay Trillanes… ang nag-research, si Calida [Solicitor General Jose Calida]. Just like kay Sereno [Former Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno],” he expressed.

According to the President, when SolGen Calida says something is wrong and has to be corrected, he cannot refuse him. The latter is a government lawyer.

“Before you can give a pardon or amnesty, you have to know, you have to declare your guilt,” Pres. Duterte said.
