Social Media Giant Facebook Asks Big Banks To Share Customer Data

The giant social media company Facebook has asked the major banks in the US to share the details and information of their customers.

A banking source told AFP that Facebook asked the big banks in the United States to share their customer details to allow it to develop new services on Messenger texting platform.

The anonymous source said that a few months ago Facebook has discussed the matter with Chase, JPMorgan, Citibank, and Wells Fargo.

Previously, Facebook has faced extreme criticisms for allegedly sharing user data with several app developers.

The source said that Facebook seems interested in the customer’s information including bank card transactions.

However, the social media giant explained that they were not asking for transaction data although they were asking for the customer’s details.

Customer Data

“Like many online companies with commerce businesses, we partner with banks and credit card companies to offer services like customer chat or account management,” Facebook said quoted by Inquirer.

The social media company aims to create new ways for Messenger to improve interactions between banks and customers.

Citigroup has refused to give comments over the possible discussion with the social media giant regarding the social network Messenger.

Facebook explained that Messenger can be used by businesses to help people track their account details including balances, receipts, or shipping dates and not for anything else.
