However, Navy spokesman Commander Jonathan Zata and Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana clarified that the Chinese vessel dropped its anchor at the area for routine replenishment of supplies and provisions.

“There was prior coordination made by Chinese ambassador Zhao Jianhua with Department of Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano. The docking was given approval,” Lorenzana said quoted by Philstar.

Zata explained that Chinese research and surveillance ship was just like other foreign warships making a similar visit so there’s nothing unusual about it.

Yuan Wang 3 was believed under the control of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) General Armaments Department (GAB) and reportedly packed with enormous satellite capabilities.

Magdalo Rep. Gary Alejano said that Filipino people should be concerned about the docking of Chinese ships in the country.
