CEBU – The archbishop of Cebu City Emeritus Ricardo Cardinal Vidal dies at 86 Wednesday morning, October 18, a week after being rushed to the hospital.
According to a report from the Rappler, he passed away in his hospital bed at the age of 86.
It was after he was rushed to the medical institution for fever and shortness of breath and then crumpled into a coma.
One of Vidal’s physicians and closest friends, Dr. Rene Joseph Bullecer, stated that he had received a call at 7 am indicating that the cardinal was being revived due to the sloping down of his blood pressure.
And departed minutes later.
The spokesperson of the Archdiocese Cebu Monsignor Joseph Tan confirmed the death as well of the archbishop.
“It is confirmed. Our beloved Cardinal has returned to our Creator at 7:28 this morning.”
It was Tan’s statement who got the devastating news from Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma.
He admitted that it was tough accepting Vidal’s demise and has stated, “It also surprised me that he died because his condition was stable the past days. This is a sad day for us.”
According to the source, Bullecer shared that after Vidal woke up from a coma on Friday, October 13, his health condition worsened since Monday, October 16.
The funeral details of the archbishop are still drafted out.
