Cayamora Maute died, AFP chief of staff saddened.

CAYAMORA MAUTE – The father of the leaders of the Maute Group, ISIS-linked terrorist, died on Sunday in a government hospital, the Armed Forces of the Philippines saddened by his death.

According to the report of the ABS-CBN News, Cayamora Maute is the father of the leaders of the said terrorist group who occupied the Marawi City more than three months ago.

AFP chief of staff General Eduardo Año told ABS-CBN News, “Ikinalulungkot natin yung pagkamatay niya kasi marami pa sana siyang sasagutin sa justice dahil maraming biktima ng karahasan na dulot ng terorismo sa Marawi. Nalulungkot din ang kaniyang pamilya, pero ganiyan talaga, may sakit naman siya eh. Talagang time na niya siguro.”

Cayamora died at the age of 67 on Sunday even though he was rushed to the Taguig-Pateros Hospital.

However, as of this writing, the cause of his death is yet to be announced.

Recalling, he was arrested at the Sirawan, Toril, Davao City in June and upon captured, he was transferred to Taguig in Camp Bagong Diwa in the same month.

Omar and Abdullah, his sons, was said to lead the attack in Marawi last May 23 which resulted for the President Rodrigo Duterte to declare Martial Law in the entirety of Mindanao.

There were also allegations that Cayamora Maute has involvement in the activities of the group.

Meanwhile, based on the report of the Inquirer, aside from hypertension, the Maute patriarch was also diagnosed with diabetes and hepatitis.

BJMP spokesperson Senior Insp. Xavier Solda indicated that he died at around 3:07 p.m. after he was brought to the said hospital.

Solda in an interview also said that an initial report they have received told that his blood pressure shot up.
