Ramil Comendador, a former janitor then legal researcher of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) received a cash reward worth 100,000 pesos after he passed the November 2016 bar exam.
Based on a report published by Inquirer.net, Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada led the simple awarding ceremony for the former janitor, who clinched at the 194th spot in the bar exam.
“Success is no accident… Mr. Comendador truly proved that hard work, perseverance, and sacrifice are all you need to achieve your dream,” Joseph Estrada said.
“It’s not every day you’ll meet someone like Mr. Comendador – rather Atty. Comendador now – who juggled work, family, and study to become what he is now,” the Manila mayor added.
In an interview, Ramil Comendador shared his struggle before he achieved his dream.
According to him, he started working in the private sector after graduating from high school. He later got married and had two kids, now ages eight and four.
From 2007 to 2010, he worked as a janitor in Comelec. He then took the civil service eligibility exam and he was admitted as the legal researcher of the commission.
Ramil Comendador enrolled in a law school in 2011 and using his salary in Comelec, he got to pay his tuition. He noted that his wife, who’s an engineer, helped him, especially in their household expenses.
Comendador shared that he got sick and was hospitalized while taking his review for the bar. But his condition did not stop him from pursuing his dreams.
