Batangas Quake Victims Receives No Help Yet
Batangas quake victims continued to seek help as many of them were only sleeping on dump trucks and receive no food and medicine yet.
Last week, a magnitude 5.5 earthquake has struck Batangas province, which causes damage to its historical church, capitol building, buildings, and some establishments. The powerful tremor was also felt in different areas of Luzon.
The residents affected by the quake in Batangas receives no help yet from their local government. Most of them have no shelter, food, and even medicine. The quake victims were hoping to receive an immediate help they needed.
Lawrence Castillo, one of the quake victims were staying in a dump truck together with his wife and six children. Castillo and his household were affected by the powerful tremor in Brgy. Pulong Niogan last Saturday (April 08, 2017).
The province was also declared under the state of calamity as the Department of Social Welfare and Development declared that the quakes and aftershocks affected around 6, 022 persons in nine barangays of Mabini.
Castillo said that everything was destroyed and washed out due to the 3 strong tremors shook the coastal areas of Batangas, which magnitude 6 was the strongest quake recorded in the province.
He also said that he already knew that their house was dilapidated, so he immediately went home. But when he get home, his child told him that they have no longer a house. He also stressed that they receive no help yet.
“Sana naman ay matulungan nila kami kasi wala pong tumutulong sa amin… Lumapit na po kami pero wala…Kahit tent wala pong binibigay,” said by Castillo quoted by Interaksyon.
Castillo also said that his employer lent him the truck where his family stays, rice, and small amount of money to start with.
