Vice President Leni Robredo Defends Senator De Lima Over Illegal Drug Involvement And Drug Related Cases

Vice President Leni Robredo defends Senator Leila De Lima over drug-related charges and involvement in illegal drug proliferation.

Previously, Senator De Lima was charged by the Municipal Trial Court for violating the Republic Act 9165, which Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 for her alleged involvement in the illegal drug trade at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP).

De Lima said that she never abused her authority as the former Justice Secretary, so she doesn’t deserve to be arrested. The senator explained that she’s just performing her duties and responsibilities.

She said that her critics don’t have enough evidence on the accusations against her. Several inmates inside the national penitentiary have already testified against De Lima and confessed that the former Justice Secretary is coddling drug lords.

Robredo has defended the senator saying that the government was setting aside the rule of law due to the political persecution of the government against De Lima. The vice president also explained that the charges filed against the senator could cause a chilling effect on the people, who does not agree with policies of President Rodrigo Duterte.

The vice president also said that when the allegations against De Lima proved to be true, it is required to undergo the legal process. Aside from VP Robredo, several Liberal Party senators such as Senators Kiko Pangilinan, Bam Aquino, and Franklin Drilon also defends De Lima. They also said that the impending arrest of De Lima is illegal.
