6.5 magnitude earthquake hits some parts of Visayas and Mindanao.

MAGNITUDE – An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.5 struck some parts of Visayas and Mindanao on Friday evening.

According to a recent news report in Inquirer, the officials have expressed that some infrastructures were left damaged by the 6.5 magnitude quake which hit some parts of Visayas and Mindanao on late night, Friday.

Furthermore, the electrical power was out and not less than two people were left injured in the incident according to the officials. Reportedly, the movement in the Philippine fault has caused the earthquake.

Based on the news report, Police Officer Jimmy Sarael expressed through a telephone call that his family was awakened from sleep by the quake but they could not stand due to the shaking of the ground.

The Police Officer stressed that he thought of the possibility that their house would collapse. He and his wife just embraced their two kids until the shaking slowly stopped.

Police Officer Sarael also added that they later on transferred to the outside area of the provincial capitol complex. According to him, around 1,000 residents were there.

According to coast guard personnel Rayner Neil Elopre, many people were awakened by the quake and transferred to the streets. Furthermore, there were kids who were in tears, the coast guard personnel said by telephone.

Based on the news report, Philippine Institute of Seismology and Volcanology (Phivolcs) said that in Surigao City, intensity 6 was felt. The Parkway Hotel is one of the buildings that were left damaged by the quake.

Speaking to ABS-CBN TV, Senior Supt. Anthony Maghari, the police chief of Surigao del Norte, expressed that some parts of a school building have collapsed as to reports. The said institution was an elementary school. It has left one parked vehicle damaged.

Meanwhile, based on the report, Phivolc’ Renato Solidum expressed that there is no danger of a tsunami hit in Surigao del Norte.
