Notorious Carnapper Placed Behind Bar After Motorcycle Accident Using Stolen Plate
A notorious carnapper was arrested after an accident led authorities to discover that he was using the license plate of a stolen motorcycle.
A 22-year-old man was arrested after a motorcycle accident using a stolen plate in Antipolo City, Rizal.
The suspect figured in a motorcycle accident in Barangay Sta. Cruz. While checking the vehicle involved in the incident, authorities noticed that the motorcycle’s plate number matched the plate of a motorcycle that had been reported missing nearly three weeks earlier.
The plate had been listed in records maintained by the Barangay San Isidro Public Safety Office and the Antipolo City Police. The discovery immediately raised suspicion and prompted investigators to look deeper into the case.
“’Yung plaka nung motor na unang nawawala na recorded dito sa amin, ay nakakabit doon sa motor kung saan naaksidente ‘yung suspek,” Barangay San Isidro Public Safety Office chief Renante Tuñacao said.
Authorities later tracked the suspect at a hospital in Quezon City, where he was recovering from a knee injury sustained during the accident. Police officers arrested him while he was receiving medical treatment.
The suspect is now facing charges for violating the New Anti-Carnapping Act of 2016. According to barangay officials and police investigators, he already has previous records linked to carnapping and robbery incidents in the area.
Despite the accusations, the suspect denied any involvement in the theft. He claimed that he had purchased the motorcycle from an acquaintance for P4,500 and insisted that he did not steal it.
However, investigators said he mentioned several names that may help authorities identify other people connected to the case.
Meanwhile, authorities have already recovered the stolen license plate. The recovery brought relief to the 27-year-old owner, who had been worried that his plate number could be used in criminal activities and cause trouble for him if captured on security cameras.
Police are continuing their investigation while the suspect remains under medical care. Follow-up operations are also underway to locate the missing motorcycle and identify any possible accomplices who may have been involved in the crime.
