Giant Humanoid Robot Unveiled By South Korean Company
Hankook Mirae Technology in South Korea unveiled their supersized humanoid robot, which can be manipulated by a human pilot inside.
A 4-meter giant robot was formed by the science fictions behind the Hollywood blockbusters including “Transformers” and “Avatar.” The giant robot has been in process of development since 2014. Hankook Mirae Technology created the 1.5-ton bipedal robot which they called as “METHOD-2.”
METHOD-2 is the first robot that can be driven by human riding in it like what we can watch on several movies featuring robots. The robot moves when the human pilot inside moves and it can be also controlled by a remote controller without a human on board.
“Our robot is the world’s first bipedal robot that humans can get on. The robot can be operated and controlled by a person riding on it, and it can also be remote-controlled without a person on the robot. The robot is designed and built to reach extreme places and environment where humans can’t go, and to work accurately with great strength,” said by Yang Jin-Ho, Chairman of the company quoted by GMA.
The battery power of the gigantic machine can be fully operational for only 1.5 hours, according to the company. The robot could be used for construction purposes where a great amount of strength is required and they will also allow using the robot for entertainment purposes such as displaying at theme parks.
Yang also said that they receive a lot of inquiries about the robot that will be used for military purposes. The exterior shell of the robot was designed by an artist named Vitaly Bulgarov who also work for movies such as Robocop and Transformers.
The humanoid robot will be launched for commercialization by the end of 2017 with a price of 10 billion won or $8.29 million.
