Firecracker Related Casualties was reduced due to the fear of the Filipinos to President Rodrigo Duterte, who supposed to implement firecracker ban in 2016.

On Sunday (January 01, 2017), Department of Health (DOH) that more lives of Filipinos were spared from the dangerous firecrackers this year. Firecracker related injuries were surprisingly reduced as of New Year’s eve.

Maybe Filipinos were afraid to be punished upon Duterte’s announcement to punish revelers who will celebrate New Year’s eve with firecrackers, according to the opinion of Health Secretary Paulyn Ubial. The health secretary concluded that this is one of the reasons for the remarkable decline numbers of firecracker casualties.

Firecracker Related Casualties

There is a total of 350 firecracker-related injuries were recorded by DOH as of 6 am of January 01, 2017 in Sta. Cruz, Manila. Ubial explained that this is 60 percent lower than the five-year average number of casualties from 2011-2015 record.

2016 firecracker-related injuries were the lowest in 10 years with an average of 1, 000 casualties per year, according to the health secretary. The reduced number of casualties came after Duterte said he considers the nationwide ban of firecracker use in the country like what he did in Davao City.

Ubial also said that many Filipinos were afraid to use firecracker due to fear of Duterte because they were afraid to be penalized. She also said that the least she can do was to issue a warning that firecracker use was very dangerous.

Firecracker Related Casualties

The remarkable reduction of firecracker casualties was covered during the period of December 21, 2016, to January 01, 2017. The number of casualties will be count until January 05, 2016. Ubial also noted that 84 percent of casualties are male with an age ranging from 2 to 71 years old.
