Mayor Sara Duterte sees a chance of the renewal of the relationship between PH and U.S.
SARA – Mayor Inday Sara Duterte met with United States Ambassador to Philippines Sung Kim in Davao City.
Pres. Rodrigo ‘Digong’ Duterte’s daughter, Inday Sara, is the present mayor of Davao City – the city that the 71-year-old President has served for more than two decades before he ran for the presidential spot.
In the recent national election 2016, Pres. Duterte, the former Mayor of Davao City, is undeniably one of those names that are very known to the citizenry. A big part of the populace has really looked up to the man commonly known as ‘Digong’.
The former Mayor of Davao City secured the highest post in the country through a landslide victory in the 2016 presidential election.
He went out as the victor in the presidential race against four other strong bets – Sen. Grace Poe, former Vice Pres. Jejomar Binay, former Interior and Local Gov’t Sec. Mar Roxas, and the late Miriam Defensor-Santiago.
Pres. Duterte, the 71-year-old President who is known for his strong stand against crime, corruption, and illegal drugs, has started his goals right away after he secured the post.
He has always been loud when it comes to warnings towards erring officials and drug suspected personalities. Based in a previous news report, Mayor Sara Duterte even fears for the life of her father.
Pres Duterte has also been vocal towards his dislike of people criticizing his war against drugs. He has even thrown some tirades to U.S. Pres. Barack Obama which led to rumors that the Philippines might be having a shift in the alliance.
The U.S. and the Philippines have been allies for many years. However, recently, the relationship has been challenged by the tirades of the Philippine President towards the American President.
Furthermore, Pres. Duterte is also not in good terms with the former Ambassador of U.S. to the Philippines. Nevertheless, the US-PH relationship as of the present seems to be in a steady state.
Recently, a news report in ABS-CBN News entailed that the new ambassador of U.S. to the Philippines, Sung Kim, met with Davao City Mayor Inday Sara Duterte.
Based on the news report, the presidential daughter expressed that there is an ‘opportunity’ to renew the friendly ties of the country with the American nation.
In a statement stated in the report, Mayor Duterte expressed that the meeting with U.S. Ambassador Sung Kim was short and ‘cordial’.
The report entailed that Mayor Duterte did not further state on what had been discussed during her meeting with Kim but instead expressed her thanks for the support expressed by the ambassador on the effort of the government to curb terrorism.
