De Lima Prepares Official Trip To US, Germany
Senator Leila De Lima prepares her trip to U.S to receive an award and also to speak at the Annual Conference on Cultural Diplomacy in Berlin, Germany.
On Friday (December 09, 2016), the former Justice Secretary and now Senator De Lima said that she had already completed her documents and travel clearance. Now De Lima is ready to leave the Philippines for her travel.
The lawmaker will be having an official travel in the United States and Germany. The senator will receive an award in U.S and she will speak before the influential world leaders to raise awareness and support for the human rights.
“Both visits are very important to me because as a senator, I will have a chance to speak before influential world leaders and global thinkers on raising awareness and support for human rights, an advocacy I am passionate about,” said by De Lima in a statement quoted by ABS-CBN.
The senator is planning to set a meeting to the most influential leaders around the world. The lawmaker promised that she will immediately return after her official travel in US and Germany.
Previously, the senator has been involved in different issues and controversies in the country for her alleged involvement in the illegal drug proliferation at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP). President Duterte also insists that the lawmaker is involved in illegal drug activities.
De Lima was also pointed by several convicts of the national penitentiary saying that she coddled drug lords and pushers. NBP inmates testified that they sell drugs inside and outside the national penitentiary to fund De Lima’s senatorial campaign before the May 2016 elections.
Her former bodyguard, driver, and alleged lover Ronnie Dayan was also alleged involved in the illegal drug trade. Dayan was accused as De Lima’s bagman in collecting drug money paid by drug lords in exchange for their protection.
