Comelec reveals the reason behind the urge to be against the petition for extension of the voters’ registration filed by youth groups in the Supreme Court.

Youth involvement in politics is vital. A greater percentage in the population of the Philippines is composed of youths. For the progress of the country and the Filipino youths, it is also one good thing that an avenue for leadership training would be provided.

In the Philippine government system, there is a separate set of positions that can only be occupied by youths. This is the Sangguniang Kabataan or more commonly known as ‘SK’.

In Sangguniang Kabataan, youth leaders are being honed to contribute their skills in leading the country to the progressive side. The youth government is equally beneficial for the youths and the country.

Based on a report in Inquirer, certain youth groups filed a petition in the Supreme Court.

SK Reform Coalition,  Akbayan Youth, First Time Voters Network, Student Council Alliance of the Philippines,  Bigkis-UPM, and Center for Youth Advocacy and Networking wanted an extension on the voters’ registration period.
