Some of the country’s most prominent business leaders and top executives of major airlines meets with President-elect Rodrigo Duterte in Davao City for a courtesy call. In an official statement from the Duterte administration, those who attended to meet Pres. Rody Duterte were top executives of the Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific and AirAsia.
The country’s official flag-carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) delegation was headed by President and Chief Operating Officer (COO) Jaime Bautista. Aside from the PAL COO, he was joined by by Angelito Alvarez, Siegfred Mison, Nicky Gozon, Capt. Edgardo Diaz, Leana Sanga, Maria Yvette Pineda, and Atty. Paolo Go.
The Cebu Pacific delegation was headed by their top executive Cebu Pacific President and CEO Lance Gokongwei together with Cebu Pacific executives namely Michael Szucs, Atty. Paterno Mantaring, Michael Ivan Shau, and Frederick Go.
Meanwhile, one of the most dominant regional low-budget airline, Air Asia group was led by CEO Atty. Josephine Joy Caneba and she was joined by Capt. Dexter Comendador and Johansen Hernandez.
Although the complete details of the meeting between Pres. Rody Duterte and the three leading airline companies in the country was not revealed yet to the media, an RTVM report said that one of the topics discussed during the meeting is about the country’s air traffic. Pres. Duterte was quoted by RTVM who said that “The first thing really is to improve the traffic in the sky,” Duterte said.
One of the major plans of President Duterte during the campaign period is to improve the air traffic in the Philippines to promote tourism, in one of his previous speaking engagement with the National Association of Independent Travel Agencies at the SMX Convention in SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City, he blamed air and road traffic for his tardiness.
