Mayor Rodrigo Duterte the potential candidate for President of the Philippines made a very important announcement on Monday afternoon which was highly anticipated by his followers and supporters who wants him to proceed to Malacanang after successfully leading Davao City into one of the safest city in the world.
“I am not running.” This is the official statement of Mayor Duterte during a very important meeting with his supporters as he ended the speculations that he will finally declare his candidacy for the highest post in the country.
The 70-year-old Mayor Duterte told a crowd of supporters, that he arrived at the decision after consulting with his family. For the past few days, it is no secret that at least his daughter Sara Duterte, a former mayor of Davao City, was against him running for President.
The other members of the Duterte family, particularly his son’s said earlier that they would support whatever decision their father would take.
During the meeting for a very important announcement, Mayor Duterte apologized to his supporters and friends who witness the 14-minute press conference.
The tough-talking mayor of Davao City made the official announcement of not running for President at around 4:00 P.M. on Monday at Grand Men Seng Hotel in Davao City. At the time, the mayor had threatened to quit politics when his term as mayor ends in 2016 if the supporters continued.
