The Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino (Filipino Film Critics) on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 successfully named the winners for the 37th Gawad Urian Awards which gave recognition for outstanding local films released in the past year.
The glamorous event was attended by prominent stars in the country who appeared stunning on the awards night held at the Dolphy Theater in ABS-CBN compound in Quezon City.
Among those who won the prestigious recognition for Filipino films were neophytes and veterans in the entertainment industry. The event gathered indie films and mainstream movies which ruled in cinemas.

Independent film actress Angeli Bayani and Joel Torre won the highly coveted Best Actress and Best Actor awards respectively. Angel Aquino and Jun-Jun Quintana on the other hand received the supporting roles.
Hannah Espia, a newbie movie-maker was among the big winner on the awards night after winning the Best Director award for movie “Transit” while “Norte, Hangganan ng Kasaysayan” by Lav Diaz won the Best Picture award.
This year’s awards night also showcase spectacular performance from critically acclaimed singers in the country. The Gawad Urian 2014 awards night is hosted by Piolo Pascual and Bianca Gonzalez.
