The President of the Republic of the Philippines signed on Friday, December 20, 2013 the P2.265 trillion national budget for the year 2014. During the speech of Pres. PNoy after the signing ceremony, he lauded the Congress for its achievement.
The President noted that it has been the fourth year that the Philippine national budget was approved on time. He was quoted as saying “Dahil dito, hindi lang po natin agarang naipapatupad ang mga prayoridad ng proyekto, natatapalan din natin ang maraming mga butas na maaaring pagmulan ng pang-aabuso sa kapangyarihan at sa kaban ng bayan,” Aquino said.
The Philippine national budget signing ceremony was attended by Vice President Jejomar Binay, House Speaker Sonny Belmonte and Senate President Franklin Drilon.
The budget approved by lawmakers is about P4 billion lower than the President’s proposal of P2.268 trillion. The reduction in the proposed national budget represents the waived pork barrel funds of 15 senators, plus the P200 million social fund of Binay which the Vice President waived as well.
The biggest share of the P2.265-trillion 2014 GAA continues to be devoted to Social Services, which will receive P841.8 billion or 37.2 percent of the total national budget. This includes budgetary support to the Administration’s ongoing Conditional Cash Transfer program (P62.6 billion), the construction and repair of public school cl(–foul word(s) removed–)rooms (P44.6 billion), and the National Health Insurance Program (P35.3 billion).
