On Monday December 9, 2013, fourth year student of San Miguel, Bulacan was now under coma after competing in a boxing in Department of Education-sanctioned regional athletics tournament in Iba, Zambales.
16-year-old named Jonas Joshua Garcia was competing in a boxing match at the Central Luzon Regional Athletic (–foul word(s) removed–)ociation meet, when suddenly he complained for dizziness at second round of the match.
After he complained dizziness in the said round, Jonas Joshua Garcia was immediately rushed to the provincial hospital.
According to the findings of admitting physician, Jonas Joshua Garcia suffered from internal hemorrhage and currently in comatose.
Due to this matter, the athletic meet and tournament manager organizers denied any negligence on their part and claimed it was an accident.
The Bulacan team also withdrawn all 10 amateur boxers from the tournament.
Aside from that, the Bulacan team also added they would rather suggest that Department of Education superintendent should abolish all the combative sports including boxing, taekwondo and arnis in the coming athletic events of DepEd.
The patient Jonas Joshua Garcia is still now on the hospital to where he was rushed, and his parents didn’t give yet their opinions in regard with this incident which happens to their son as well as the DepEd.
