Senate Blue committee has recommended an impeachment trial against Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez with regards to the alleged bungling of the plunder case against former comptroller Carlos Garcia. A request to eliminate the four other state prosecutors is also proposed by the committee.
In the partial report presented by the Chairman of committee, Senator Teofisto Guingona III last Thursday on the media, 13 other senators has signed in the recommendation to show their support including senators Drilon, Escudero, Osmena, Recto, Trillanes, Zubiri, Pia Cayetano, Legarda, Revilla, Pangilinan, Villar, Allan Cayetano, and Joker Arroyo.
According to Guingona, the recommendation that they have submitted is for Ombudsman Gutierrez to be impeach for betraying the public trust. He also gave several options to Gutierrez including to voluntary step down to her position.
The four prosecutors who were included in the report by the Senate blue committee to be removes are prosecutor Wendell Barreras-Sulit, deputy special prosecutor Robert Callos, acting deputy special prosecutor Jesus Micael, (–foul word(s) removed–)istant prosecutor Jose Balmeo Jr., and (–foul word(s) removed–)istant special prosecutor Joseph Capistrano.
On the other hand, in response to the calls of the Senate to go down from its position, Gutierrez has firmly stood her word that she will not resign and fight the case filed against her until the end.
While President Aquino said that in regards to the case of ombudsman Gutierrez, he gave the authority to the congress to decide about it.
