Four Dead in Manila Bus Bombing

Powerful explosion inside a bus along EDSA Makati at 2 p.m. Tuesday that killed four and wounding 14 other people. The explosion could have originated from the compartment underneath the floor of the bus that punched a hole through the floor of the bus large enough for a man to p(–foul word(s) removed–) through it and tore a hole in a nearby perimeter wall along EDSA.

The incident caused heavy traffic on EDSA and around Makati.

Victims were rushed to the Makati Medical Center and the Ospital ng Makati.

Identified fatalities during the incident were: Shirley Khristel Hausena Andes, Johansson De Leon Reyes, Mariano Magayaw Salustiano, Irish Teniola, and the unidentified man who died at St. Luke’s Hospital in Fort Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City

Vice President Jejomar Binay condemns the incident in this deplorable and violent act. “Such an act should not go unpunished,” Binay said.

The PNP (Philippine National Police) now undertaking thorough investigation to determine the cause of the blast by mobilizing all investigative and intelligence units to (–foul word(s) removed–)ist in the probe.

Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin said they are treating the bus explosion as well as the other recent high profile cases of violence as “police matters” at the moment.

But he said the intelligence community is working closely with the police to determine if there is really a plot to destabilize the Aquino administration by creating a scenario of lawlessness.

The Malacañang President Aquino ordered the various government agencies and they are now working to take care of those injured and investigate the bombing incident.

“Everyone can be (–foul word(s) removed–)ured that it won’t take a long time and this incident, like the bombing during the Bar exams (at the De La Salle University on Taft Avenue in Manila) this incident would have resolution,” Aquino said.

“The government will not stop to find those who perpetrated this grisly crime and we will not allow a kind of situation where the people will have anxiety (over their security),” Aquino said.

He added “that might be a possibility but the more important thing is identify who did it, where these people are and put them behind bars.”
