UK has been covered in the extreme layer of cold over past few weeks. The alarming thing in this regard is that the flu casualties are increasing at a fast rate. Figures have shown that over thirty nine people have died in UK as a result of flu cause by severe cold. Many are fighting against the disease and are ill.
Three of the people who have died are reported to have been infected with swine flu virus named H1N1. The remaining people who died had influenza. These are the statistics of the Health Protection Agency. This statement is an alarming situation for the officials and for such reason campaigns are conducted to help people understand the precautionary measures (–foul word(s) removed–)ociated with the disease. The government said that the figures were told so that people start taking certain necessary measures against the disease by taking facility of the precautionary plans conducted by the government.
The cases are increasing very fast. The officials say that the cases have risen to 124 per million. The figures of Scotland are also of concern, 55 cases per million people were reported to be affected by the flu till Thursday. Considering the fact that these cases were 48 per million last weeks puts a challenging task for the official to guard their citizens against the severe cold.
In such a condition, UK’s expert committee on vaccination has decided to give seasonal flu jab to children between the ages 5 and 15. The expert committee had a long meeting in which the availability of vaccine to other group of people other than children was discussed. The meeting took place on Thursday. The committee emphasized that it would be even more advantageous if we extend this vaccination process to pregnant women and people suffering from chronic diseases related to heart, kidney and liver.
The Health Protection Agency further said that 12 people have died as a result of winter last week. Professor John Watson of Health Protection Agency illustrates that usual younger people are being affected. The Health Secretary Andrew Lansley on behalf of government announced that a budget of 1 million pounds has been set for the awareness and cure campaign named “Catch it, Bin it, and Kill it”. The campaign will start with the arrival of New Year. The government will conduct the campaign using radio and national press.
He further said that all of us can help each other to fight against the disease; this can be done using good hygiene and protection.
Since there is a lot of pressure from opposition, so government is taking measures to ensure proper vaccination conducted by the Vaccination team of the expert committee.
