Port Personnel Douses Disinfectant on Passenger’s ‘Lechon’ as Province Imposes Temporary Ban on Entry of Pork Products
A port personnel was caught on camera pouring a disinfectant on passenger’s ‘lechon’ during ban of pork and pork-related products.
Cebu City government has imposed a ban on pork and pork-related products from Negros Island. This decision was made due to the confirmed outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) in several areas of Negros Island.
The ASF virus is highly contagious and can spread rapidly among pig populations, leading to high mortality rates. It is not harmful to humans, but it can cause significant economic losses for the swine industry.
Recently, a Facebook user named Ruby Famz has shared the video footage of a port personnel who poured a disinfectant on her ‘lechon’. The video rapidly went viral on the internet, eliciting emotions from viewers.
In the video, port employees apprehend a female passenger and attempt to confiscate her ‘lechon’ baboy. The personnel informed her that the province is temporarily prohibiting the entry of pork-related products.
“Ban on entry, there shall be a temporarily ban on the entry of live hogs, sows, piglets, boar semen, pork, and pork-related products originating from the Island of Negros into the Province of Cebu from March 6 to April 5,” Memo Exec. No. 9 – Cebu City says.
The lechon, according to Ruby, came from her mother in Pagadian City, not Negros Island, as stated in the memo. The port workers confiscated the pork product and doused them with disinfectant.
The female traveler was disappointed by the incident. Ruby claimed that her mother’s efforts in preparing the food are wasted.
The social media users expressed their reactions to the post:
